- Description:
- Abstract:
- "The Anne Arundel County, Maryland 2005 digital natural-color orthophotography was collected during April 2005 leaf-off conditions at a resolution of 20 centimeters to obtain a pixel resolution of 6 inches for all final orthos. The imagery was flown at approximately 6,300 ft AMT with a 30% sidelap. The data covers Anne Arundel County, MD with approximately 518 square miles of coverage. The digital orthos were delivered to Anne Arundel County in 2500'x2500' uncompressed 24-bit natural color TIFF files and in individual MrSID compressed files. Accuracy is better than ASPRS Class 1 standards for 1 inch equals 100 ft scale orthophotography with a horizontal accuracy of plus or minus 1 foot."
- Purpose:
- These data have been created as a result of the need for having geospatial data immediately available and easily accessible in order to provide geographic reference for Federal, State, and local emergency responders, as well as for homeland security efforts. Orthoimages also serve a variety of purposes, from interim maps to field references for earth science investigations and analysis. The digital orthoimage is useful as a layer of a geographic information system. These data can be used to provide reference information for Web browsers and for map applications at a scale of 1:100,000 or smaller. Larger scale orthoimagery such as digital orthophoto quadrangles will be more accurate, but often at the expense of timely updates. "Anne Arundel County, MD has a goal to develop and maintain a seamless county wide GIS base data set. EarthData is providing a county wide imagery base layer which will enable the county to extract valuable information from in order to accomodate their resource planning and GIS efforts."
- Supplemental_Information:
- The data obtained through The Seamless Server is considered to be the "best available" data from USGS. Historical data and other data may be obtained by contacting Customer Services, Center for Earth Resources Observation & Science, at 1-800-252-4547. Information in quotation marks, initial processing steps, accuracy reports, and source information is taken directly from the original metadata.Spatial-specific information not available

- "The digital orthophotography for Anne Arundel County iscomprised of a 6-inch pixel resolution and is in groundortho rendition.Once the client provided DEM data for the ground orthoareas were integrated into the ISTAR system the initialradiometric adjustments were performed on the imageryfor each flight line attempting to reach the bestpossible histogram. The rectification process was runusing the processed DEM surface and the radiometricallybalanced imagery on each flight line. A second set ofradiometric adjustments were made and mosaic lineswere placed. QA/QC was performed looking for smearsand other indications of problems within the digitalorthophoto creation process. The final imagery data set isremoved from the ISTAR environment in a process called"packaging" where the individual tiles are created. Thecreated tiles are reviewed again for anomalies andinteractive radiometric adjustment applied where needed. The final digital ortho products were produced anddelivered in 2,500 ft x 2,500 ft sized tiles in uncompressedTIFF files and compressed MrSID files with acompression ratio of 20:1. All final orthos were projectedto NAD83, Maryland State Plane, NAVD88, U.S. SurveyFeet and were in natural color rendition at a scale of 1 inchequals 100 feet. Data was delivered on firewire drive."

- Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
- For color-infrared and natural color DOQs, a digital number from zero to 255 will be assigned to each pixel but that number will refer to a color look-up table which will contain the RGB red, blue and green (RGB) values, each from zero to 255, for that digital number. Areas where the rectification process is incomplete due to incomplete data (i.e., lack of elevation data, gaps), are represented with the numeric value of zero.
